I am Feeling Better Now

I just got back from dropping Vince off at Kindergarten where I had a  long talk to his head teacher. She had seen that I was really unhappy yesterday and was glad we had some time to talk this morning. I feel a lot better now. She understood my concerns, and I think together we can get the assistant to understand that she needs to use Vince (I know, hard to believe) as the starting point. Not her made up step by step direction for integration.
He is staying there from 8.30-12.30 today. If it does not work they will call me. He had been in the room playing for almost an hour when I peeked in. He did not see me, he was busy chatting to someone on a pretend phone as he simultaneously examined a doll with a stethoscope. I had parked right outside that window where he was playing, so he saw me drive away, and made a sad face. But at least no phone call till yet, so I am guessing he is fine.

Oh and this is pretty funny. He is such a clothes/shoe freak. Today he refused to put on his new fleece jacket I bought him, he would only wear the rain jacket. He also picked out which shoes to wear, and he flat out refuses to put on shoes he does not like. For Kindergarten they needed slippers and shoes for the exercise room. Due to the fact that I own a kid’s shoe store, I have him lined up with three different types of shoes for the different things at school and he also has some socks with rubber under. Do you think he is wearing ANY of them? Nope. At least they are laying in his basket doing a good job of marketing the shoes;)

And this is fun! I am loving it:-) The selling is actually going better than I thought and the customers are really positive to the shoes. And of course you can order shoes from me; send me an email to graz.at[at]vincentshoestore.com and I will be right on it!

Better update tomorrow, I am about to close for the day!

Open!

58 min till Opening

I am so nervous I could puke. Radio and journalists from 4 newspapers and a magazine will be here together with some of our closest friends and family in 58 min. Just sent Bookie away to buy me a big well deserved vodka drink…

1 Day Till Opening

Wow. It is past midnight already and I am still in the store. Bookie is building a shelf for the cash drawer and I am just tired. But the store looks amazing! Thanks to everyone who has helped us! Especially to Heidi, there is NO way we could have finished this all without you here to watch after the Prince the last weeks! We miss you already!

19 hrs to the VIP opening….

9 Days till Opening

And the shoes are in! Or at least some of them. And as  most of the store area is done – the rest of the shelves and furniture should arrive with DHL on Saturday, we have been working on the storage area lately. Other things that have been finalized this week: the ball pit is done, the ads have been sent to the news paper, more promotion packs were dropped of at some papers, champagne for the VIP opening was ordered, wall signs are on their way with trucks from Slovenia, and the painting (knock on wood) should be all done!

Pics of the day: A somewhat organized chaos…

12 Days Till Opening

Most of Sunday was spent putting in the hardwood floor, and as you can tell Bookie had a blast and does not mind doing this at all… We got about 1/3 done. Continuing today.

13 Days Till Opening

And we have gotten a lot done. The walls are almost done completely, the old floor has been removed, and all of my body is aching. Vince is having a blast with his baby sitters. He loved Heidi from the firs moment. We also have another new babysitter that comes, and she is also really good. The one we used to have is on vacation and is then going to school to become an EI. And even though she was perfect for us, and hard to beat for a new person, the new person is also excellent. Vince loves playing with her, and Vince’ mom loves that she takes care of laundry and dirty dishes too. Good service!

Who Would Have Known?

It’s been a really busy week. We have lowered the ceiling in the store, and I finally finished (almost) the filling and sanding of the ceiling. Just as we were getting ready for round number two with sanding etc, the electrician who was putting up the emergency exit sign (apparently that has do be done by a specialist) showed up to tell us we had forgotten one cable. I so know he did not tell us, as Bookie has been having a blast (no sarcasm there, he does actually like that part) pulling cables for everything left and right in the store. So, up on the air tunnels we went with cables, concrete drilling machine, little drilling machine, pipes and little screws to put in the extra cable. Bookie believes that you cannot develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (me) within two days, me myself, I am pretty sure you (I) can. Along with a real good neck pain for standing on a ladder two days and looking straight up and working above your head.

Other and more surprising things in the news: I joined and got certificated by the mall’s volunteering fire department? Really, I did. I don’t think I understood more than approx 25% of what was said, the guy had a really tough accent, but there were lots of pics, thankfully, so I did get the major parts. And now why did I do this? You see, now I do not have to pay the monthly fire department fees 🙂

I am off to the store for a quick round of sanding the (knock on wood) last part, then the painting can begin! And, thenI am picking up Heidi, Vince’s nanny who is coming for 2 weeks from Denmark!
